Sounds like Musk is planning for the future. I presume these plants can produce less than their rated capacity, so might as well buy the big one in the first place. As you point out, this plant is capable of producing more methane than is needed just for the power plant and Boca Chica rockets, which suggests he plans to export some to the sea platforms. I think that would require a pipeline out to a port somewhere.

IMO, this project will either come to naught or be scaled back drastically once Musk tries to get the other pieces approved. You might want to keep in mind that this is a guy who shit canned an already purchased multi-million dollar carbon fiber mandrel when he decided to go with stainless steel instead. Musk is quite capable of changing his mind if a better option is presented. Do you have a better option?

I wonder how pure the methane needs to be to function as rocket fuel? Is the methane which is being trucked in ultra pure or is a minor portion of ethane ok? Assuming the methane needs to be ultra pure, how big of a pre-treatment plant would be needed to service just the Boca Chica rockets? How big of a power plant is needed to service that smaller pre-treatment plant?

I appreciate your efforts to hold polluters accountable! FWIW, ethane is not considered a VOC by the EPA. Also, Mineral Rights are separate from oil, gas rights. Hope that helps!

Whoops, yes, my terminology is incorrect and could see how it's misleading. Incomplete combustion of ethanes can create reactive species. They do not count in the fugatives emissions count. Wording could be misleading as is. Thanks!

technically there are a few isomers of the longer HCs that aren't VOCs as a surrogate for ozone generation. Gotta keep me honest lol
